The Apache County Superintendent of Schools
is authorized by the Arizona State Constitution. The County
Superintendent of Schools is elected for a four-year term
on a partisan ticket. A current teaching certificate is required
to hold the office. The County School Superintendent's statutory
responsibilities include the following:
Monitor all accounts payable (AP) and payroll (PR) vouchers
on-line for expenditures per ARS 15-304.
Monitor payroll to verify that each certified employee has
an active Arizona Department of Education (ADE) teaching certificate
on file per ARS 15-302.09 and 15-302.13.
Receive County Treasurer report of revenues allocated to school
districts including USFR interest accrued to school districts
per ARS 15-914.01 and USFR Article 4.
Provide report to the County Treasurer regarding the number
of school districts served, and the detailed dollar amount
of warrants written per treasurer fund (ARS 15 914.01).
Provide for the control and printing of all school district
AP and PR warrants per ARS 15-914.01 and USFR Article 4.
Reconcile monthly and cash balances between the County Treasurer
and the local school district accounting systems per ARS 15.914.01
and USFR Article 4.
Provide computerized services for issuing of warrants and
reports for about 1866 employees.
Monitor the completion of federal and state project/financial
reports annually per the Auditor General and ADE guidelines.
Oversee special school elections, school board elections,
and district budget override and bond elections.
Appoint school board members to board vacancies in the school
districts.
Establish service programs as requested by school districts
